Frequently asked

Questions worth answering directly.

Is Compass a personality test?

No. The assessment is only the starting point — a way to give the mentor enough signal to be useful on day one. From there, your profile evolves through the decisions you log, the patterns you notice, the careers you save, the goals you commit to, and the conversations you have with the mentor. After a few weeks, the system knows you in a way a one-time test never could, which is the whole point: most career advice fails because it doesn't know who it's talking to.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes — one click in settings, no email, no retention call, no friction. If you cancel mid-cycle you keep access until the period ends. Your data stays available for export the entire time, and after cancellation you can come back later and pick up exactly where you left off; your profile, decisions, plans, and mentor memory are all preserved unless you ask us to delete them.

What happens to my data if I leave?

You're in control. You can export your full history — profile, decisions, plans, conversations, saved careers — at any time, in a portable format you can keep forever. You can also permanently delete everything with one action; deletion is real, not a soft archive. Nothing is held hostage, and there is no "premium export" tier. Your career thinking belongs to you.

Does Compass sell my data?

Never. Compass is funded by memberships, not by ads or data brokers. We don't sell, rent, or share your information with third parties for marketing, training external models on your private content, or any other commercial purpose. That alignment is intentional — when the user is the customer, the product can be honest with them.

Is this career coaching?

Not in the traditional sense. A human coach gives you a few hours a month at $150–$400 an hour and forgets most of what you said between sessions. Compass gives you a structured environment, an AI mentor with long-term memory of your situation, an evolving profile, decision frameworks, and a daily momentum system — available the moment you need to think, for less than the cost of a single coaching session per year. It doesn't replace a great human coach for everyone, but for most people it does the job a coach was supposed to do and keeps doing it across years.

Is Compass therapy?

No. Compass is career guidance software with clear boundaries. The mentor will help you think through work, identity, ambition, burnout, and major life-direction decisions — but it is not a substitute for a therapist or any licensed mental-health professional. If something heavier surfaces in a conversation, the mentor will gently point you toward appropriate support rather than pretend to be something it isn't.

How long should I use Compass?

As long as your career is still moving — which, for most people, is decades. Compass is designed for the seasons that actually shape a working life: early-career searching, mid-career transitions, burnout and recovery, promotions and pivots, relocation, parenthood, sabbaticals, reinvention, and the long quiet stretches in between. The longer you use it, the more valuable it becomes, because the archive, the patterns, and the mentor's understanding of you all compound. A few months of membership costs less than one hour with a coach; a few years of membership is the cheapest serious career infrastructure you'll ever own.

A career is a decade-long decision. Start making it on purpose.
